Good morning, We received a phone call that a resident had been having a Stroke, but the ambulance couldn't fit down the road due to the poor parking on the road. We had recently done a letter drop on this street asking residents to park safely, considerately and legally. Numerous tickets had been given out on the road and one vehicle was even towed for obstructing the junction on the road.
Apparently, this still wasn't enough for some residents to learn, multiple vehicles obstructed access to the top of the road. After visiting each house after the incident, many residents were mortified to hear that their parking had been obstructed the ambulance getting to their neighbour.
Thankfully, the medical team were able to get patient on time on foot, however this meant leaving their vehicle in the middle of the road and blocking access for other residents. It also meant losing valuable time, time that is vital in a medical emergency.
Imagine if this was you or your family member or friend.
You don't know what circumstances could occur at any point, and that's why we say to park safely, legally and considerately at ALL times.
This means -
- Do not park within 10 metres of a junction or opposite a junction.
- Do not park blocking the pavement. A person using a wheelchair or a double pram need to be able to use the pavement.
- Do not double park if it means that access will be restricted for the rest of the road. Remember, a fire engine would need to be able to fit through. (Or a bin lorry, which is one of the most frequent complaints that we hear about in Crewe!)
- Do not park covering drop kerbs, people using wheelchairs or prams will not be able to safely leave the pavement.
Whenever we put up a post on the Crewe Police Facebook page about parking, we receive so many comments about where you would like us to visit. We need your comments to be put on our survey here - Residents Voice Survey for the local Officer to see.
We don't want to miss your suggestion on where to visit. The survey results get reviewed regularly. It starts again each month. Please be mindful that we cannot be everywhere at once, and can see how often a certain road has been requested. We base our priorities off this feedback.
We also see a lot of comments about double yellow line parking. To make it clear, Cheshire East Parking Enforcement Team deal with double yellow lines. Here is the link to report illegal double yellow line parking - Report illegal parking We deal with unnecessary obstruction.
We don't want to hear of any more circumstances like the story above. We need your help to make parking safer in Crewe. If you are a driver and live or work in Crewe, please THINK before you park.
We've added some photo's of examples on Crewe Police Facebook post at 09:53am today of how not to park.
Stay safe. PCSO Lizzie Jolley 22582 Crewe Police
